Police arrest Rautahat brick kiln massacre suspect

RAUTAHAT: Police have arrested a fugitive accused in the incident of burning people dead at a brick kiln at Rajpur Municipality-4 of Rautahat.

A team from the Province Police Office, Janakpurdham arrested him from Baudhimai Municipality-7, Rautahat, bordering India, said Siddhi Bikram Shah, Superintendent of Police at District Police Office, Rautahat.

It is said that Sahani was arrested on the basis of special information that he had entered Nepal from India. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Sahani was the head mason of the brick kiln at the time of the incident.

Former minister Mohammad Aftab is waiting for his trail at the jail for allegedly murdering his cadres injured in a bomb explosion some 12 years ago.

The District Attorney Office, Rautahat on November 4 had filed the case against Alam demanding life imprisonment in three counts of crime.

Alam has been charged with a crime for the production of explosives and offenses related to the murder, which he has been denying. While pleading not guilty before the court, Alam had claimed that no explosion took place.

Alam’s cadres were reportedly making a bomb following his order and were injured when the bomb accidentally went off on April 9, 2008. Seven persons were killed in the bombing. The injured were set on fire at the brick kiln.
