NARAYANPUR: The schools with majority of Tharu students in Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City in Dang district are to run classes in the Tharu language to ensure better learning to the students in their mother tongue.
For this to materialize, Tharu Welfare Assembly is assisting the Sub-Metropolitan City for the development of the curriculum.
In the first phase, the students of grade 1 to 3 will be taught in the Tharu language, Mayor Narulal Chaudhary of Ghorahi confirmed.
“Tharu Welfare Assembly has already developed the curriculum.
The curriculum will be implemented after the Education Division of the Metropolitan City offers its feedback on the curriculum,” according to Mayor Chaudhary.
The curriculum is expected to be effective in imparting education to the children in their mother tongue by boosting up their confidence, and mental and emotional aspects of the learning.
This shall also help make the Tharu language sustainable and would help preserve, promote and develop this language.
Chairman of Assembly and Coordinator of Tharu Mother Tongue Curriculum Development Team Bhuwan Chaudhary said that the curriculum was prepared by incorporating 16 contents and four areas of scopes.
The Sub-Metropolitan City has endorsed the Tharu language as the official language in its offices from last year but its implementation is yet not effective.
Another city in Dang district, Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City has started the classes in the Magar language from last year in the schools with majority of students from Magar community.
