Nepal reports one new death, COVID-19 infected cases reach 2,634

KATHMANDU: A total of 334 new cases of coronavirus have been reported as of Thursday afternoon taking the tally to 2,634, Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population has said.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Spokesperson Dr. Bikash Devkota said that among the newly-infected are 2,450 males and 184 females.

According to the Ministry of Health, 84,134 tests have been carried out using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) method so far. Out of this, 4,924 samples were tested through the PCR method in the last 24 hours.

A total of 163,262 people have been quarantined across the country currently.

Spokesperson Dr. Devkota said that 3,965 people in Province 1; 22,702 in Province 2, 3,227 in Bagmati Province, 4,297 in Gandaki Province, 41,683 in Province 5; 32,565 in Karnali Province and 49,820 in Sudurpaschim Province have been quarantined.

Similarly, Dailekh district has reported 113 new infections on Thursday.

In the PCR test conducted at the Karnali Institute of Health Sciences, 105 people have tested positive and 8 have tested positive for corona in Surkhet.

Similarly, a man from Khatyad Gaonpalika-2 of Mugu has tested positive for coronavirus during a swab test conducted at the Karnali Institute of Health Sciences.

At the same time, the number of corona cases in Karnali has reached 389, according to the Health Division of the Ministry of Social Development.

Among the new infected ones are one man from Narayan Municipality-1; 20 men from Ward No. 2, one woman, 14 men from Ward No. 3 and one woman.

Similarly, corona infection was also found in 2 men of Gaunpalika-1 and 3 men of Gaunpalika-1. Laxminarayan Tiwari informed.

Similarly, one man from Savik Banskot village of Dailekh, five men from Bhagani, 12 men from Dewalkanda, two men from Sadu and nine men from Sota were found to be infected with corona. Tiwari informed.

Nepal has so far reported 10th COVID-19 death after a 45-year-old man from Palpa died in course of treatment in the Palpa Mission Hospital on June 2. The deceased was from Purba Khola Rural Municipality of Palpa.

According to Dr Devkota, he had returned to Nepal five days ago from India and was staying in a local quarantine.

He was admitted to the Mission Hospital, Palpa three days ago after having difficulty in breathing,

His swab sample was collected on June 2, where he tested positive for the COVID-19.

The virus has now spread in 65 out of 77 districts.

Meanwhile, as many as 45 people from Makwanpur, Gulmi, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Sunsari and Jhapa, who were receiving treatment at TU Teaching Hospital, Gulmi Hospital, Bhim Hospital and BPKIHS have been discharged after recovering from the virus infection on Thursday.

With this, the number of recovery from COVID-19 in Nepal has reached 290 — 234 males and 56 females —  according to Spokesperson Dr. Bikash Devkota.

Deaths so far:

A 29-year-old new mother from Ramche in Bahrabise municipality, Sindhupalchowk was the first person to die of coronavirus in the country on May 14.

Likewise, the second death was a 25-year old man died in a quarantine in Banke on May 17.

A 70-year-old man died at National Medical College in Birgunj on May 17. He was the third and a 41-year-old man from Madane rural municipality of Gulmi died at the Crimson Hospital on May 21 was the fourth to die of COVID-19.

Similarly, a person died in India while returning to Nepal on May 23. He was the fifth one to die while an elderly man from Bungmati of Lalitpur district died on May 27 to become the sixth one die of COVID-19.

The seventh was a 35-year-old man from Dullu-11 of Dailekh who died in a quarantine center.

Similarly, the eighth victim became a two-year-old girl who breathed her last at an isolation ward of Bajura District Hospital.

The ninth was a male from Dolakha who died at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) on Wednesday while undergoing treatment.

The 10th death was a 45-year-old man from Palpa who died in the course of treatment in the Palpa Mission Hospital on June 2. The deceased was from Purba Khola Rural Municipality of Palpa.
