19 NA members completing their term today

KATHMANDU: Nineteen members of the National Assembly (NA), including Finance Minister Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada will complete their term as lawmakers on Tuesday.

All 59 NA members were divided into three categories on the basis of their tenures – two years, four years and six years.

NA lawmakers receiving the draws for two years are completing their tenure today. The House was formed in 2018.

Another 20 NA members will stay in the House for four years while the next group will stay for six years.

According to Article 86.3 of the Constitution of Nepal, the term of office of the members of the NA shall be six years. The term of office of one-third of the members of the National Assembly shall expire in every two years.

While 18 new lawmakers have been elected to the NA, the 19th member will be appointed by the President on the recommendation of the government.
