DHANUSHA: Preparations are underway to finalize the name and capital of Province 2 through elections.

Province 2 Secretariat informed that the elections will be held on March 23 to finalize the name and capital of the province.

A meeting of the Provincial Assembly slated for March 5 will inform the session about the electoral process before holding the elections the next day.

The finalization of the name of the province and capital has been the thorniest issue. The provincial assembly meeting has been deadlocked for the last three months over the same reason.

Provincial Assembly Speaker Saroj Kumar Yadav said that the meeting has been called for March 5. The meeting will take place at 1 pm.

“The meeting will inform the session about the agenda regarding the name and capital of the province and the election will begin at 8 am on March 6,” said Yadav.

According to Yadav, four proposals have been submitted for the name of the province and three proposals for the capital. A two-thirds majority will endorse the proposals following the deliberation.

Even though all the parties are in unison on the capital of the Province but they are divided over its name.

Ruling Samajwadi Party and Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) has 30 and 25 seats respectively, while the opposition Nepal Communist Party has 32 and Nepali Congress has 19 while Federal Socialist Forum led by Rijwan Ansari has one seat.
