Health Ministry preparing for likely COVID-19 second wave

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population says that the number of infected people has decreased as the first wave of coronavirus is slowly coming to an end.

The ministry also said that preparations have started with the assessment that the second wave will start soon.

“As other countries have been hit by the second wave of the coronavirus, we have the same possibility,” said Expert Advisor to the Ministry of Health Dr. Khem Karki said, “It is estimated that there will be signs of a second wave by mid-December.”

The second wave of coronavirus has been seen in various countries of Europe as well as India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh in South Asia.

As the possibility of a second wave is seen internationally, the ministry has moved ahead with the work accordingly, Karki said.

“In the second wave, the number of infected people increases. Therefore, we have no other option but to increase the capacity and manpower of the hospital. We are working on that,” Karki said, “The idea of 6,000 HDU beds is also aimed at this.”
