35 Nepalis in Melbourne test positive for COVID-19

MELBOURNE: As many as 35 Nepalis residing in Melbourne have been infected with COVID-19.

Prem Kandel, the coordinator for the Non-Resident Nepali Association, Victoria, confirmed that 35 Nepalis have tested positive for the virus.

According to Kandel, four more Nepalis were reported to have been infected with coronavirus on Monday, mostly students.

Sharing the same apartment and room has increased the coronavirus risks among Nepali students.

Similarly, two NRNA Victoria officials have also been infected with the virus. It is said that the number of infected people may go high as some other Nepalis are also staying in self-isolation.

NRNA Victoria has provided food items worth Australian $120 each to the infected persons. “The health condition of Nepalis satying in isolation is normal,” he said. In case of any health problems, NRNA has also made arrangements to contact Nepali doctors over the telephone.

The Victorian government will provide Australian $3 for the PCR screening.

Similarly, if the coronavirus is confirmed or has to stay in isolation, the government will provide one hundred dollars at a time. Students will also enjoy this facility. Prior to this, nine Nepalis in Victoria had been infected with the virus. All of them have recovered.

Meanwhile, a six-week curfew has been clamped in Melbourne, Victoria, after coronavirus cases spiked of late.

The curfew will be imposed from 8 pm night to 5 am morning. The curfew will remain effective till September 13.
