Eight workers missing in Melamchi landslide identified



KATHMANDU: Eight workers who went missing in a landslide that buried their hut near Melamchi Bazaar in Sindhupalchowk district have been identified.

According to District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk, the missing are Pradip Chaurasiya of Birgunj, Bikram Thing, Man Bahadur Rumba, Rajendra Chaurasiya, Sonam Lama, Shiva Balak, Siman Ghalan and Indian national Rajendra Chudhary.

According to Melamchi Municipality Mayor Dambar Bahadur Aryal, eight workers deployed in the construction of a covered hall at Pipalbot have gone missing due to a landslide.

The landslide triggered by incessant rains buried a makeshift shanty where they were sleeping on Sunday night.  One of them has been rescued alive.

Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army with the help of locals are carrying out rescue work.
