Nepal plans to announce health emergency



KATHMANDU: The government is planning to declare a health emergency following an alarming surge in the number of coronavirus cases.

An employee of the Ministry of Health told Khabarhub that discussions have started among the officials of the Ministry on the issue of declaring a health emergency.

“The ministry has been discussing declaring a health emergency for a few days now as the infection is on the rise,” the staffer told Khabarhub, “The issue of declaring a state of emergency was also discussed at the ministry this evening. But the decision has not been made yet.”

A source said that the Ministry of Health said that a proposal will be forwarded to the cabinet meeting after the decision of the ministry.

“After the health ministry sends the proposal to the cabinet to declare a health emergency, there will be a formal announcement on what will happen based on the cabinet’s decision,” a source told Khabarhub.

Nepal has reported 2,300 COVID-19 cases and nine deaths so far.
