KATHMANDU: Nepal Army (NA) has said it will take some more days to bring medical goods from China due to public holidays including International Workers Day.

The China government has given a public holiday for five days starting May 1 to 5 for International Workers Day.

It will take some days to bring the medical goods sine the required processes including custom cannot be fulfilled due to the public holiday, said Nepal Army.

Earlier, preparations had been made to send two wide-body airbuses of Nepal Airlines Corporation to Guangzhou on coming Tuesday to this effect.

All the medical goods have already arrived at Guangzhou. “We have received information that it will take some more days to settle the processes including custom-related matters due to long public holiday,” said Brigadier General Bigyan Dev Pandey.

Two wide-body airbuses will be sent to China only on Thursday or Friday to fetch the medical goods, he said.

The Nepal Army has initiated the process to bring essential medical goods under the government to government model at the direction of the Nepal government.

According to Pandey, the wide-body airbuses will bring nearly 30 tons of medical goods from China. Preparations are underway to bring the medical goods required immediately via air and the rest will be brought through land.

Nepal Army is preparing to bring 342 tons of medial goods, of which 30 tons will be brought via air while the remaining 312 tons will be brought via land.

The NA had sent US $18,441,706.35 to China via Nepal Rastra Bank 10 days ago for the procurement of medical goods.
