TAIPEI: Eight military officials including Taiwan’s top general have been confirmed dead after the UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter crashed in northern Taiwan, Alzajeera reported on Thursday.

Chief of general staff General Shen Yi-ming, 62, and other officials were on a routine mission to visit soldiers in Yilan when the military helicopter crashed-landed.

Five others have been rescued.

The military officials were on a routine mission to visit soldiers in the northeast Yilan county before the lunar new year later this month.
