NCP row: Meeting of four leaders inconclusive

KATHMANDU: The meeting between the Nepal Communist Party (NPC) Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Prime minister KP Oli ended inconclusively today as well.

The three-hour long meeting, also attended by NCP senior leader Jhalanath Khanal and Standing Committee member Subash Nembang, held at the Prime Minister residence at Baluwatar could not make any headway as top leaders remained adamant to their respective stance.

Today’s meeting was widely anticipated to narrow down differences among the top party leaders, particularly between Chairman Dahal and PM Oli.

The meeting was also considered meaningful as it was held at least a week after PM Oli unilaterally postponed Tuesday’s Standing Committee (SC) meeting.

It should be recalled that Dahal had continued with the meeting participated by 29 SC members, mostly of the Dahal-camp.

Describing the unilateral decision to postpone the SC meeting as “unfortunate”, the meeting had entrusted Chairman Dahal to hold talks with PM Oli and settle the disputes and convene the meeting at the earliest.

The ruling NCP is caught in a quagmire as two leaders – PM Oli and Chairman Dahal – are at loggerheads in recent times.

The Dahal-led faction has been demanding Prime Minister Oli’s resignation from either one of the posts of the party Chairman and the premiership.
