KATHMANDU: Main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has demanded the government to revise the Information Technology Bill.

The party said that the proposed IT Bill would curtail people’s right to freedom of expression.

Issuing a press statement on Wednesday, NC chief whip Bal Krishna Khad said that NC party strongly opposes some of the provisions of the IT bill which he claimed contradicted the preamble of the Constitution of Nepal as well as the fundamental rights enshrined in it.

The party has said that the Bill restricts people’s fundamental rights to freedom of expression.

Khand, in his statement, has also urged people to join hands with the NC against the government’s anti-constitutional move to curtail the people’s rights to freedom.

The bill has already been endorsed by the parliamentary Development and Technology Committee.
