DOTI: Minister for Communications and Information Gokul Baskota has claimed that the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact with the United States would be ratified by the Parliament at any cost.

“No one can stop it from being endorsed,” Minister Baskota said at a program in Doti today.

He said that the government will table the MCC compact in parliament and will be ratified.

Stating that the MCC agreement should not be politicized as it has no connection to the US government’s Indo-Pacific strategy, he said that some people are trying to mix the two to create obstacles, which he said was far from the truth.

Under the compact, the MCC will provide $500 million in grants while the government will chip in $130 million for the implementation of the Electricity Transmission Project (ETP) and Road Maintenance Project (RMP).

The funds will be used to develop the Hetauda-Damauli-Butwal 400kVA transmission line and repair 305km of highways from Itahari-Kakarvitta and Pokhara-Butwal.
