Security guard of Speaker Agni Sapkota tests positive for COVID-19



KATHMANDU: A policeman, who was assigned for the security of the Speaker of House of Representatives Agni Prasad Sapkota, has been infected with COVID-19.

A highly placed source told Khabarhub that he was confirmed with coronavirus on Friday. He used to stay at the Nepal Police Headquarters. He was on duty before July 21.

According to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Divison, Kathmandu, more than 30 swab samples of security personnel including the Speaker were collected after the security gurad was confirmed with the pandemic virus.

All the results of 30 swab samples will arrive by tomorrow, sources said.

Including him, as many as 72 police personnel working at the Nepal Police Headquarters have been infected with the COVID-19.

Spokesperson for the Nepal Police headquarters SSP Kuver Kadayat said the number rose to 72 on Friday from 44 on Thursday.

The infected personnel have been admitted to the APF Hospital in Balambu for treatment, according to him.

The new infections have been reported after contact tracing of previously infected personnel, including drivers, mechanics and those working at the mess hall.

Meanwhile, the influx of people into the police headquarters has been tightened after the number of infected cases surged.

According to Kadayat, more than 20 people have been quarantined following contact tracing of the infected persons.
