Locusts spread to 27 districts of Nepal



KATHMANDU: The swarms of locusts which entered Nepal on Saturday have spread to 27 districts of the country.

According to Ram Krishna Subedi, the coordinator for Locusts Information Center and Plant Quarantine and Pesticide Management Center, the locusts reached 27 districts of Nepal as of Tuesday evening.

According to Subedi, major five swarms of locusts had entered Nepal from India before spreading into various districts.

The swarm of locusts that entered Rupandehi is the largest of all which consisted of 2 million to 2.5 million, according to Subedi. The other swarms that entered Bhairahawa divided into three groups and headed towards west.

Locusts have reached as far as Pyuthan, Dang, and the bank of Rapti River, according to the Center.

The locusts were also spotted in all the three districts of the Kathmandu Valley on Tuesday.

The locusts have spread to Chitwan from Bara and those seen in Sarlahi have flown to Sindhuli, Kavre, and Sindhupalchowk.

Similarly locusts have spread to Palpa, Syangja, Kaski and Gulmi from Rupandehi and Banganga of Kapilvastu.
