Form parliamentary committee to probe Rukum incident: NC

KATHMANDU: Main opposition Nepali Congress has demanded with the government to form an independent probe committee involving lawmakers from Dalit community.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Min Bahadur Bishwokarma demanded that the Rukum West incident should be investigated by a parliamentary committee.

Lawmaker Bishwokarma put forth his demand at a time while the United Nations has already stated that Chaurjahari incident should be investigated impartially.

“A probe committee led by a lawmaker from Dalit community should be formed to look into the Chaujahari incident,” said Bishwokarma, warning a stringent action ahead unless it is done so at the earliest.

The lawmakers from Dalit community in the parliament protested saying the government formed an investigation committee led by a government official. “It is not acceptable to us,” they said.
Victims were thrown into the Bheri River after killing them, they said arguing that the postmortem report does show water in the water in their stomachs.

Six out of 19 people had died when they jumped into the Bheri River to save their lives after they were brutally attacked by locals of Chaurjahari in Rukum West few days ago over the issue of a girl.
