Nepal Communist Party wins in Thawang



KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has made a winning start to the by-elections held for 52 vacant posts.

According to the Election Commission (EC), NCP’s Janak Bahadur Budamagar has been elected Ward Chairman from Thawang Rural Municipality-1 in Rolpa district, the heartland of Maoist insurgency in Nepal. He defeated his closet rival Kamal Bahadur Rokamagar of the Nepali Congress.

Janak Bahadur received 174 votes as Kamal Bahadur got 26 votes. Nine votes were annulled.

A total of 110 males and 95 females cast their votes in the by-elections held in Thawang -1 with the voters’ turnout standing at just 16.28 percent.
