Nepal’s Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara accused of sexual assault

KATHMANDU: In a serious allegation, a woman has accused Nepal’s Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara of sexually assaulting her.

The woman who is an employee at Parliament Secretariat has accused Speaker Mahara of assaulting her at her room in Tinkune on Sunday evening in a drunken stupor.

The woman has said that she knew Speaker Mahara through her husband and he used to frequently visit her.

She had said she called police after the assault, adding that Speaker Mahara left before police arrived. The woman has however not lodged a complaint with the police.

Speaker’s Secretariat refuted the allegation, adding that an official statement will be made soon.

Talking to Khabarhub, Speaker Mahara said that accusation was made against him to vent ire, refuting the allegation as baseless.

“She vented her ire over integration. It’s not like that she has told,” he said.
