Nepal Telecom to bring into operation 4G service in 50 cities

KATHMANDU: Nepal Telecom (NT), the government-owned telecom service provider, is providing 4G services in the country’s 50 urban areas from October 2.

NT said it would announce the expansion of the 4G service at a program in Kathmandu which would be addressed by Prime Minister KP Oli on Wednesday.

The telecom, which had started its 4G service in Kathmandu and Pokhara from January 1, 2017, is now expanding its services by selecting places having more business transaction and high population density.

According to Nepal Telecom’s spokesperson Pratibha Baidya, the works have continued for the expansion of the 4G services in 50 urban areas.

She informed that the towers have already been installed at more than 110 places for the expansion of the service. NT has plans to install 40 more towers by Wednesday.

According to her, the 4G service would start in places like Birtamod, Damak, Biratnagar, Inaruwa, Chandragadhi, Dhankuta, Dharan, Jasleshwar, Janakpur, Bara, Parsa, Simara, Malangawa, Kalaiya and Gaur.

Likewise, Dhading, Sundhupalchok, Bidur, Kavrepalanchok, Bhimeshwar, Sindhulimadhi, Manthali, Kushma, Parbat, Chitwan, Baglung, Taulihawa, Sauraha, Devdaha, Butwal, Ghorahi, Tulsipur, Kohalpur, Nepalgunj, Bhimdattanagar, Jhalari, Surkhet, Chaumala, Pipaladi, and Attariya will also benefit from this service.

The government has plans to expand the 4G LTE service throughout the country until February 12, 2020.
