NA endorses bill amending some Nepal Education Acts

KATHMANDU: The National Assembly (NA) meeting on Friday endorsed the ‘Bill to Amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Education, 2075′, by a majority.

The proposal was tabled by Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokhrel in the meeting seeking the passage of the bill.

Taking part in the discussion of the bill, lawmaker Ram Lakhan Chamar said that the provision of scholarship to students from the Dalit community has not been implemented yet.

Likewise, lawmaker Prakash Panta stated that the constitutional provision of providing free education to the people with disability in higher education has been hijacked.

Responding to lawmakers’ concerns, Education Minister Pokhrel clarified that the government does not have ill intention of restricting the spirit of the constitution while formulating the country’s laws.

He said that the Bill was designed in keeping with the provisions specified in the constitution.
