KATHMANDU: Hindu devotees are celebrating Kushe Aunshi festival across the country by bringing in Kusha ( holy grass) to their houses.
It is believed that keeping Kusha in the house will bring prosperity and happiness to the entire members of the family, said Professor Dr Ramchandra Gautam, chairman of The Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti (Nepal Calendar Determination Committee).
On this festival, which falls on Bhadra Krishna Aunshi, devotees also pay homage to their fathers by offering favorite foods, clothing and other stuff. That is why Kushe Aunshi is also known as Father’s Day.
Worshipers regard Tulasi, Pipal, and Shaligram as the symbol of God Bishnu, the protector of the universe according to the Vedic texts.
Meanwhile, Hindu devotees whose fathers have already passed away throng Gokarna in Kathmandu and other holy places to offer foods, sweets and donate alms in the name of the departed souls on the occasion. A fair is held on the premises of Gokaneshwar Mahadeva Temple today.
