SARLAHI: A person died when police opened fire on a crowd in Sarlahi today.

The youth 27-year-old Kewal Mahato of Ishworpur was killed when police opened fire following a clash with the locals at Banke after the locals blocked the East-West Highway, police said.

Around two dozen police personnel have also been injured in the clash that ensued after Amit Raya died while swimming in a pond on Saturday.

Raya’s body was recovered on Sunday despite the search initiated by the police. According to the police, locals snatched Raya’s body and started demonstrating on the highway, which then ensued a clash between the police and the locals. Police had to use tear gas shells and rubber pellets to disperse the crowd.
