Around 15 huts demolished in Chobhar



KATHMANDU: The Kirtipur municipality has demolished some 15 huts on the banks of Bagmati in Chobhar of Kathmandu.

According to the city’s Deputy Mayor Saraswati Khadka, the huts belonging to landless squatters were demolished following locals’ complaints of pollution in the area.

Khadka said that the squatters were running run a soap factory in the area and burned animal fats and bones for the production of soaps.

The burning of animal bones and fats created a foul smell and smoke in the area. According to Khadka, the squatters had encroached the riverbank.
