Over 156,000 people leave Kathmandu in 24 hours for Dashain

KATHMANDU: Around one lakh 56 thousand people have left Kathmandu Valley on the first day of Dashain on Sunday to join their families back home to celebrate Dashain.

A total of 60 thousand people have entered the Valley.

Likewise, a total of 13 thousand vehicles have left the Valley in the last 24 hours, according to Chief of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, Bhim Prasad Dhakal.

The people have started going back to their homes for Dashain through Thankot, Jagati, Balaju, and Dakshinkali entry points.

People, mostly students, migrant workers, and private employees have left the Valley on Sunday. The number is likely to surge till Mahasathami.

According to Dhakal, traffic police personnel have been mobilized at various places to manage and regulate vehicular traffic to ensure safety of the passengers.

Likewise, equipment has also been on stand-by on the Naubise-Nagdhunga section of the road to remove vehicles that encounter mechanical breakdown causing traffic congestion on the highway, he informed.
