Nepal U-19 thrashes Sri Lankan club by 80 runs



KATHMANDU: Sagar Dhakal grabbed five wickets as Nepal U-19 thrashed Baduralya Club by 80 runs in a second practice match played in Sri Lanka on Thursday.

The match was a part of Nepal’s preparation for the upcoming U-19 Asia Cup.

Nepal posted 207 runs target for Baduralya losing all wickets in 46.4 overs. With the match hit by rainfall, Baduralya got a revised target of 165 runs in 31 overs. However, it managed to get only 84 runs losing all wickets.

For Nepal, Sagar Dhakal grabbed five wickets giving away 18 runs. Likewise, Pawan Shraff and Kamal Singh Airee took two wickets each as Kushal Malla took one wicket.

Earlier batting first, Rit Gautam of Nepal made 76 runs, Hari Bahadur Chauhan made 56 runs and Sandeep Jora contributed 24 runs.

Nepal had suffered a three-wicket defeat at the hand of Sinhalese Sports Club in the first practice match played at Sinhalese Sports Club Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday.

Nepal will play the last practice match with Chilaw Marians Cricket Club on Friday. Nepali U-19 cricket team is, currently, in Sri Lanka for the preparation of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup to be held from September 5 to 14.

Nepal, which falls in Group B, will play host nation Sri Lanka on September 6, with Bangladesh on September 8 and with the UAE on September 10 in the group stage match.

India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Kuwait are in group A. The top two teams from each group will secure a berth in the semi-finals.
