Over 245 fire-related incidents reported in Delhi this Deepawali

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) on Diwali night received over 200 calls, including fires due to bursting crackers and a fire at a central Delhi market shop, Indian media reports have said.

According to DFS, they received over 245 fire-related calls till midnight on Deepawali and 96 more calls till 10 am today.

Most of the calls were related to blaze in open areas, according to Chief Fire Officer Atul Kumar.

Last year, the DFS had received 271 fire-related calls, according to him.

There has been a decline in fire-triggered incidences by burning or firecrackers, he said.

Officials said that the use of firecrackers in Delhi on Deepawali has decreased over the years over concerns about pollution. The Delhi Government has also imposed restrictions on the sale and usage of fire crackers this year.

The DFS said no major fire incident was reported in New Delhi capital on Deepawali this year. However, there was a huge fire at a shop in Sadar Bazar market of New Delhi. (Agencies)
