Man behind a series of syringe attacks lands in police net



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested 30-year-old Santosh Karki of Ramechhap district for his involvement in a series of syringe attacks in the  Kathmandu Valley.

Karki, who runs a fast-food restaurant at Maharajgunj, was arrested from Maharajgunj area based on a CCTV footage on Thursday night. He admitted to having attacked the girls with sharp pointed objects for fun while returning home from the restaurant in the evening.

Karki said he neither had any motive behind the attack nor was it aimed at transmitting diseases. Karki has also confessed his involvement in the other two incidents in Paknajol and Dhalku.

“Karki was arrested on the charge of syringe attacks in different parts of Kathmandu,” DSP Hobindra Bogati, spokesperson for the Metropolitan Crime Division, told Khabarhub.

Karki said he neither had any motive behind the attack nor was it aimed at transmitting diseases. Karki has also confessed his involvement in the other two incidents in Paknajol and Dhalku.

On June 1, a motorcycle-borne man had first attacked a woman in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16 at 10 pm which was subsequently followed by a series of syringe attacks for a week, according to police.

A group of women had lodged a complaint stating that they were attacked by syringe at the night of June 1, 3 and 15. The police had carried out the investigation into the case based on this complaint.

Santosh has also taken the responsibility for the syringe attack that took place at Dallu and Sohrakhutte.

DSP Bogati said they are also conducting further probe into the syringe attacks.
