BIMSTEC countries, including Nepal invited to Modi’s swearing-in ceremony

NEW DELHI: The Government of India has invited leaders (heads of state) from BIMSTEC countries (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) to  the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony on May 30. Mauritius and Kyrgyzstan have also been invited to attend the ceremony.

BIMSTEC is the regional group composed of Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan. MEA (Ministry of External Affairs of India) has confirmed the news as ‘India’s Neighbors First’ policy in full display.

In 2014, Narendra Modi had invited SAARC countries when he took oath of office and secrecy as the Prime Minister of India. (Agencies)
