KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli today vowed to end the culture of begging from the country while urging people to ‘make a phone call’ to the Prime Minister Employment Program if they come across any person begging in the street.
By saying so, PM Oli was trying to assert that the government would leave no stone unturned to make sure that the streets would be made beggar-free zones. “No Nepali citizen will be seen begging in the streets,” he said adding, “The Prime Minister Employment Program will take care of them.”
Speaking at the full meeting of the National Planning Commission (NPC) in Kathmandu today, he said it is the government’s responsibility to fulfil the needs of the poor, and the helpless.
He asserted that there would be a significant decrease in the number of people living under absolute poverty in the days to come.
“The government will do the needful through the Prime Minister Employment Program,” PM Oli said reiterating his commitment to end poverty.
PM Oli reiterated the government’s slogan of ‘Prosperous Nepal-Happy Nepali’ saying that this has remained as the government’s national aspiration.
On the occasion, he also pledged a double-digit economic growth in the future saying that Nepal a huge potential to become self-sufficient in cement production and to imports to India and Bangladesh through the utilization of limestone available in the country.
Pm Oli said Nepal would gradually transform into a prosperous nation by making all sectors and geographical regions production-oriented and commercial.
The Prime Minister also claimed that the country has made significant improvements in sectors such as education, health and agriculture.
He, however, made it a point to say that the government was facing some hurdles in the smooth implementation of federalism.
