KMC expedites merger of cooperatives

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has expedited the merger of cooperatives that are being operated within the metropolis.

The process of merging seven cooperatives in Baneshwor and Putalisadak areas is underway, according to Namraj Dhakal, chief of the administrative department of the KMC.

Earlier, four cooperatives were merged. The drive — in line with the Cooperative Act 2074 and Cooperative Act of the KMC, 2074 — aims to merge around 1,856 operating cooperatives into 700, according to Dhakal.

The respective cooperatives should apply in the KMC’s cooperative department of the KMC for the merger.
