OTWAA: Four people were killed when a floatplane crashed on a small island off Vancouver Island on Friday morning, said Canadian Transportation Safety Board.
The Cessna 208 Caravan floatplane with nine people on board crashed on Addenbroke Island, about 100 km off the north end of Vancouver Island. The plane, which belongs to Seair Seaplanes of Vancouver, was heading to Calvert Island, a few kilometers west of Addenbroke when it crashed at about 11 a.m. local time (1800 GMT).
Military planes, helicopters and three coast guard vessels were deployed to the waters off Addenbroke shortly after the crash. Survivors were airlifted to an emergency health center in the province of British Columbia. The Cessna 208 Caravan is a single-engine turboprop plane which can carry 14 passengers.
