73 reps held for heinous crimes including murder



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested as many as 73 people’s representatives for their involvement in heinous crimes including murder, rape, operating brothels and smuggling so far.

According to SSP Uttam Raj Subedi, spokesperson of Nepal Police, the highest number of representatives are from Province 2 with 17 representatives.

Rastriya Janata Party Nepal (RJPN) lawmaker Resham Chaudhary of Kailali 1 has been serving a life-term on the charge of masterminding the Tikapur carnage. Rajiv Gurung alias Deepak Manange, a notorious gangster who served a jail term for several times on the charge of murder, has become provincial lawmaker of Province 4.

Similarly, Provincial lawmaker of Province 3, Kunda Prasad Kushwah has been implicated in wood smuggling while Siya Ram Prasad Kushwaha, mayor of Katahariya Municipality, Rautahat, has been serving life term on a murder charge.

Chairman of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality Raj Kumar Paudel has been implicated in gold smuggling case.

Likewise, Sunbahadur Tamang, ward chairman of Dupcheshwar Rural Municipality-1, Nuwakot, has been sent to life in jail on the charge of human trafficking while Jhak Bahadur Kumal, ward chairman of Ghiring Rural Municipality-4, Tanahu, is facing rape charges.
