KATHMANDU: Cold weather has gripped the country with mercury plummeting with each passing day.

The minimum temperature in the Kathmandu Valley was recorded at 1 degree Celsius on Thursday morning. Perhaps it is the coldest temperature of the year.

The temperature was recorded at 2.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday while the mercury dipped to 3.2 On Tuesday.

According to Ganga Nagarkoti, a meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, mercury continues to fall with each passing day this winter. “If the westerly wind repeated again, it would plunge further down to zero in the coming days.”

Meanwhile, the temperature has declined in various districts of the Tarai lately.

Cold waves and fog are hitting hard the people in Tarai, especially the children and elderly.

Likewise, according to the latest statistic of the Department, the minimum temperature in Jumla goes down to zero. Similarly, temperature in Dipayal is recorded at 3.5 degree Celsius, Pokhara 6.0, Simara, 10, Dhankuta 5.9 and Okhaldhunga 3.5 degree Celsius.
