EC apprises parliamentary committee on by-elections preparations

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) today apprised the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, House of Representatives about the preparations for upcoming by-elections scheduled for November 30.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya informed the Committee leadership and its members that all preparations required for conducting the election in a free and impartial atmosphere had been completed.

As he said, ballot papers and voter’s identity cards have been already transported to the respective chief election officer’s offices.

The EC will remain extra careful for the effective enforcement of the election silence, according to him.
Election Commissioner Ishwari Prasad Poudyal said a safe atmosphere has been guaranteed for taking part in the election.

On the occasion, lawmakers advised the EC to ensure effective monitoring in regard to the implementation of the election code of conduct, to make sure the vote count within the polling stations and to make the election technology-friendly by maintaining economic discipline.

They also drew the attention of EC officials towards the possibility of voting by ‘fake voters’; and a money game during the silent period, seeking the prevention of such untoward incident.
