Rs 302.6 million penalty demanded for smuggling 25 kg gold

KATHMANDU: A case has been filed at District Court, Sankhuwasabha demanding Rs 302.6 million penalty against seven persons arrested for smuggling 25 kilograms gold.

Department of Revenue Investigation filed the case against seven persons including Topke Bhote involved in the smuggling of the precious yellow metal.

Police had handed over Bhote to the department after arresting him with five kilograms of gold. After further investigation, it was revealed that six more persons were involved in smuggling 25 kilograms of gold on different occasions.

The case has been also filed against Rinjit Bhote, Jarga Bhote, Tshering Bhote, Gyatso Bhote, Kyama Bhote and Sonam Doma Bhote. They have been accused of smuggling the gold that fetches more than Rs 150 million in the domestic market.
