Nepal records 1,319 VAW cases last year

KATHMANDU: As many as 1,319 cases of Violence against Women (VAW) were recorded in Nepal last fiscal year, according to documentation unveiled by WOREC.

The Women’s Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC), an organization working for the protection and promotion of human rights, documented and analyzed that among them, 66.72 percent (880) women faced domestic violence of various forms.

Marking the first day of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence today, WOREC made public its publication named Anbeshi stated that 11.98 percent (158) women experienced social violence while cases of rape against women and girl child stood at 10.84 percent (143).

Similarly, cases of attempted rape were recorded at 1.36 percent (18) while cases of sexual violence against women were reported to be 4.70 percent (62).
