Construction of airport in Kavre to begin soon: Minister Baskota

KAVRE: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota on Saturday said study related to the construction of a domestic airport in Kavrepalanchok district would begin in some weeks.

The project came to a halt last year following a dispute, he said, adding, “This year, the budget has been allocated to prepare a detailed project report for the project. Work on the DPR will begin soon. Rs 250 million has been set aside for the DPR and other necessary works for the project.”

He also directed the Director of the Civil Aviation Authority to complete the DPR soon.

The minister was addressing an event organized at Basdol in Banepa municipality-12 to exchange well wishes on the occasion of festivals.

Stating that an additional airport besides Kathmandu airport was needed amidst problems stemming from air traffic congestion some times, he said Kavrepalanchok was chosen for a domestic airport as it is located in a convenient area.
