U.S. to impose new sanctions on Chinese entities

NEW YORK: The United States (US) said it is imposing new sanctions on some Chinese entities and people who the US accuses of deliberately transferring oil from Iran by violating Washington’s curbs on Tehran, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said.

According to the U.S. Treasury Department, it is placing sanctions on six entities and five Chinese nationals, including two Cosco Shipping Corporation subsidiaries, international media reports have said.

Pompeo told a press conference in New York that the more Iran lashes out, the US will put more pressure on it.

The attacks on September 14 on the oil facilities of Saudi Arabia has been blamed on Iran. However, Iran has denied its involvement. (Agencies)
