Real culprit of Nirmala still at large even after one year

KATHMANDU: A one year has gone by since 13-year-old Nirmala Panta was murdered after rape but the government has not arrested the real culprit yet.

Nirmala had been murdered in Bhimdatta Municipality of Kanchanpur district on July 26, 2018. A massive demonstration took place demanding to bring the culprit to book. An innocent protester lost his live from the bullet fired by the security personnel during the protest.

To calm down the demonstration, the government framed an innocent person as the murderer of Nirmala and tortured him.

The government formed a half-a-dozen probe committees, took statement from 529 individuals. DNA test was conducted on a total of 73 people but the real culprit is still at large even after a year of the heinous crime. It has raised doubts over the efficiency of the security agencies.
