WASHINGTON: The United States said it would re-launch trade talks with China following the meeting between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping in Japan on Saturday.

However, Washington will reject any conditions around the U.S. use of tariffs, US officials have said.

US President Trump has already threatened to impose tariffs on an additional $325 billion of goods if the meeting produces no progress, reports said.

Meanwhile, China has not shown any sign of softening in its position. It said on Monday that both the US and China need to compromise in the trade talks. (Agencies)
