US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense calls on DPM Pokhrel

KATHMANDU: Visiting American Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for South and Southeast Asia, Joseph Felter on Monday held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Ishwor Pokhrel.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Defense at Singha Durbar, Felter reiterated USA’s continued support to Nepal’s development and prosperity endeavor.

The duo also on further consolidating Nepal-US ties in the recent changed context. Talking to journalists after the meeting, Minister Pokhrel said that he apprised the visiting American Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense about Nepal’s new national security policy, among other issues.

Maintaining that the US government has in the past supported during hard times, DPM Pokhrel, however, told Felter that Nepal will not participate in any international and regional military alliances.

On the occasion, Minister Pokhrel also stated that Nepal will continue to cooperate with the USA to enhance the military ties between the two countries.
