Punishment sought for Mahara over attempt to rape

Police submit investigation report to Attorney Office



KATHMANDU: Police have submitted an investigation report to District Attorney Office against outgoing Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara facing charges over sexual misconduct.

The report was submitted on Friday, the next day the Kathmandu District Court remanded Mahara seven more days in judicial custody on an attempt to rape case.

Chief of Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu SSP Uttam Subedi said that the report was submitted to District Attorney Office today.

Sources said that police have sought punishment for Mahara over an attempt to rape and sexual assault as per the National Code of Nepal.

Based on the report, the Attorney Office can direct police to carry out further investigation or file a case against Mahara. The office even holds rights not to file a case.

A decision is likely to be made on Friday, the source added.

Mahara was arrested from his official residence in Baluwatar on October 6 after Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against him for allegedly raping Roshani Shahi, a female employee at Parliament Secretariat.

Mahara is currently admitted to the Thapathali-based Norvic International Hospital after complaints of hypertension.
