Rajiv Gandhi assassination convict Nalini out on parole

NEW DELHI: Madras Court of India has granted 30-day parole to Nalini Sriharan, India’s former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination convict, Indian media reports have said.

The court has granted the first-ever prolonged parole to Nalini, who has been serving a life term for the past 28 years at Vellore jail.

Nalini, who had sought parole for 30 days for her daughter’s wedding, was released from the jail. Even though she has initially sought parole for 6 months, Nalini has been granted 30 days.

The court, which has issued a set of guidelines to Nalini, has instructed her to not speak or meet to any media during the parole period.

She was brought out of the jail today morning and was received by her relative. Her daughter, who was born in the jail itself, and currently a medical professional was raised in the UK. (Agencies)
