Despite tall promises, the KP Oli-led government has not been able to fulfil people’s aspirations in the last one year. People are yet to realize any positive changes. This is what Chitra Bahadur KC, Chairman of Rastriya Janamorcha (RJM), who has been in active politics for the last 62 years, believes. Born in Baglung, this septuagenarian leader has been voicing against federalism. Recently, Khabarhub interviewed KC for his views on the latest political developments and reasons why the two-thirds majority government did not live up to the expectations: Excerpts:
One year has gone by since the two-third majority government was formed by the communists. However, people, in general, have not realized any improvements in their living standard. What went wrong?
The main objective of communism is to establish equality by narrowing down disparities in the society between the haves and have-nots.
It is natural for people to anticipate such kind of society from a communist government. Communists normally try to fulfill people’s aspirations. However, the current government is not a communist in reality. Their lifestyle, economic perspective and attitude towards power have made it clear that this government is not a true communist government. In fact, to be frank, this government will never fulfill people’s aspirations.
Do you mean to say that the country requires another revolution?
Indeed. There is no alternative to it. A society that is free from exploitation can be envisioned only through a revolution. However, all oppressed people should stand united. Several such societies came and went by. The Chinese, Vietnamese and Russian people witnessed such kinds of societies in the past. Unfortunately, a minority of ‘haves’ came into power and started suppressing the majority of have-nots. I am sure this will not continue forever. People will see a change one day.
You do not support federalism. But at the same time, you’re carrying out political activities in line with the current constitution. Isn’t it a double standard?
Major political parties, in fact, did not realize that a small country like Nepal cannot shoulder the burden of federalism. Their motive was only to grab power by any means. They misused federalism as a ladder to attaining power.
Therefore, I have been reiterating that this system of federalism will not benefit the people. This will only drag the country into chaos and racial conflict.
Does this mean that federalism will be a failure?
Indeed. Federalism will be a total failure. It’s only a matter of time. The time will tell when people have to choose either one – federalism or the country. Therefore, it is high time that the political parties took it seriously before it is too late.
