Nepal enters ACC U-16 Eastern Region semifinals

KATHMANDU: Nepal entered the semifinals of the ACC U-16 Eastern Region- 2019 on Thursday as a Group ‘A’ winner with five points from three matches.

Nepal got one point in the match against Thailand after rain washed away the match held at Prem Tinsulanonda International School. In earlier group stage matches, Nepal had defeated Myanmar by seven wickets and Malaysia by 39 runs.

Thailand had lost one wicket without scoring a run at 1.5 over chasing 235-run target set by Nepal when rain poured in. With no further game possible, both the teams got an equal one point.

Earlier, electing to bat first after winning toss, Nepal scored 234 runs in the allotted 35 runs. Aaish Bhattarai top-scored with 58 runs including nine fours off 73 balls, Bishal Bikram KC made 38 runs including four fours off 31 balls while Deepak Bohara contributed 35 runs including five fours off 36 balls.

In reply, Narawit Nuntarach took highest three wickets of Nepal giving away 41 runs in seven overs. Likewise, Yodsak Saranonnakkun grabbed two wickets conceding 37 runs in seven overs while Sorawat Desungnoen claimed one wicket.

Prashant Mahat of Nepal took the lone wicket.
