Graft-accused Ram Hari hangs to death



KATHMANDU: Ram Hari Subedi, who had been facing corruption charges and released on a general date recently has committed suicide by hanging from a railing of a staircase at his own house in Suryabinayak Municipality-5, Bhaktapur.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had arrested 46-year-old Subedi on the charge of taking a bribe of Rs 1,000 from a service seeker.  He committed suicide at 3 pm on Monday when there was no one in the house.

Subedi, a non-gazetted official at Inland Revenue Office, Kalanki, had been released 10 days ago on a general date after serving for 22 days in the custody.

According to his family sources, Subedi had been taking medicine for depression for a long time.

His body has been taken to Bhaktapur District Hospital for postmortem. Further investigation into the case is underway, said police.
