Flood, landslide obstruct roads in Nepal



KATHMANDU: Swollen rivers and landslides have obstructed several roads across the country in the aftermath of the monsoon downpour.

The Madi-Thori postal highway in Chitwan district has been obstructed owing to the increased level of water in several rivulets that lie along the road.

According to Inspector Yubaraj Timilsina, Chief of the Madi Area Police Office, the Bagai, Magai, Ghangar, and Ratane streams have swollen after overnight rain because of which the road has been obstructed since Wednesday morning.

Likewise, the Riukhola river, which has burst its banks, increased threats of flooding in the settlements.

The road from Hetauda to Dharan has also been obstructed due to landslide triggered by incessant rain. Transportation in the eastern parts of Makawanpur has been obstructed.

Meanwhile, a landslide at Shreepur of Bakaiya 5 has obstructed the highway leading to Phaparbari, Chhhatiwan, and Raigaon.

Police said around nine houses have been inundated at Shantinagar and Baniyatol of Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-5 following incessant rain. Likewise, a truck was swept away by the flooded Karrakhola river at Hatiya of Hetauda-17.

Likewise, in Palpa, risks of landslide have increased at Phoksingkot of Rambha rural municipality-2 due to incessant rain. A landslide occurred at Lambhar of Ranibas when a bulldozer was widening the rural road.
