Nepal leads US, China and India in Global Peace Index

KATHMANDU: Nepal has been ranked as the 76th country out of 163 countries in the Global Peace Index. Nepal has secured the 76th position leaving US, China and India behind.

This evaluation is based on 23 different criteria including domestic and international conflict, social security condition, terrorism and level of militarization according to the report unveiled by Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), a global think tank.

The report unveiled in 2019 says the situation in 86 countries has shown improvement while the peace in 76 have countries has worsen further.

Iceland is in the first position while Afghanistan is at the bottom.

Similarly, New Zealand ranked second followed by Portugal, Austria, Denmark, Singapore, Slovenia, Japan and Czech Republic, respectively.

Likewise, Switzerland is in the 11th position, Bhutan in 15th, Malaysia 16th, Taiwan 36th, Indonesia 41th, South Korea 55th and Sri Lanka 72th position.

Nepal is in the third position after Bhutan and Sri Lanka in South Asia. India has gone down to 141st from 137th position.

Similarly, Pakistan is in the 153rd position, China in the 110th position while America 128th position.
