Nepal to play against Bangladesh in SAG football inaugural



KATHMANDU: Nepal’s men football team will play against Bangladesh in its first match of the South Asian Games (SAG).

The women’s team will compete against Sri Lanka to kick off the competition, according to the fixtures made public on Friday.

The competition under women’s category will be played on a round-robin basis as only teams—Nepal, India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives are competing.

At the conclusion of the round-robin phase, two teams topping the points table will play the final.

Women’s football will start on December 3. Nepal will take on Sri Lanka on the date, play against the Maldives on December 5 and compete against India on December 7. The matches are said to be held in Pokhara Stadium.

On the other hand, Nepal will play the first match against Bangladesh under the men’s category. Nepal has been pooled in Group ‘A’ along with Bangladesh and Bhutan. India, the Maldives and Sri Lanka have been placed in Group ‘B’.

Nepal will kick off the tournament with a clash against Bangladesh on December 1. Dates for other matches have not been decided yet.
